Internet Explorer 9 Beta : Download Internet Explorer 9 Beta Fee download Internet Explorer 9 from Microsoft

Microsoft will be launching the first beta of Internet Explorer 9 later today with events scheduled in London at 1830 GMT and in San Francisco with some saying that Microsoft will have a Gorillaz themed event based around the tagline “the beauty of the web”.

IE9 will be bringing a number of new innovations onboard including a completely overhauled Javascript engine called Chakra and native support for GPU technology to render webpages
, something that could alleviate the strain on CPUs especially in the mobile arena.

The company will be holding a webcast to present the main features of the new browser alongside with a simpler, sleeker user interface; there will also be a website showcasing IE9 here which promises “a richer, more immersive web).

Support for HTML5, CSS3, better interoperability and standards supported as well as significantly improved performance in W3 tests will also be part of IE9.

IE9 is expected to be available next year, possibly alongside Windows 7 SP1; the fact that Microsoft will be launching it only two years after it launched IE8 (The previous IE7 was launched in October 2006) is a clear indication that Microsoft
has focused again on browsers.

The launch of the new browser may kickstart a virtuous cycle that will see developers adopt HTML5 and CSS3 en masse and will hopefully mark the end of IE6 once and for all.

Hindus want Internet access as fundamental right

Nevada (US), Sept 3 (ANI): Hindus want high-speed Internet access as a universal fundamental right.

Noted Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that global disparity in broadband access should be narrowed and it should be universally accessible and affordable.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that internet access should be part of the basic infrastructure and everyone should have access to participate in this information/knowledge society. Internet was speedily becoming important part of our lives and brought greater freedom and was fundamental to liberty. We needed a connected world and none could provide better than universal access to internet.

Rajan Zed argued that universal internet access would help in fighting global poverty and disease, improving living standards, accelerating progress and economic/social development, enriching education/learning, gender equity, availability of services in remote/rural areas, enhancing business and national competitiveness, reducing traffic and pollution, promoting tourism, delivering entertainment/creative/educational content online, creating jobs, fostering innovation, reducing desire to move to urban centers, improving skills, allowing decentralized work environments, providing platform for addressing social issues, reducing cost and improving communication, increasing productivity, encouraging investment, getting higher revenues, improving healthcare, etc.

Zed pointed out that in many poor countries, broadband penetration was even below one percent while the access cost was exorbitant. This disparity and divide needed to go and universal net access should be the norm.

Rajan Zed also stressed the need of preserving “net neutrality”. He pointed out that openness, freedom, and level playing field of internet should be maintained and corporate greed should not be allowed to govern it.

Zed urged other religious leaders of the world, including His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, to wholeheartedly support the causes of “net neutrality” and internet access as fundamental right.

Rajan Zed congratulated Finland for being the first country to make broadband a legal right for its every citizen and for promising to connect everyone to a 100Mbps connection by 2015. (ANI)

Wonder conductors to keep your laptops and mobiles cooler

London, Sept 2 (ANI): It’s a common phenomenon for laptops and mobiles to become blisteringly hot after an hour or two of use, but a new wonder conductor could change all that.

In the past five years, physicists Charles Kane and Eugene Mele of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia have uncovered a new kind of material that can keep electrons on the straight and narrow, eliminating collisions and slashing the amount of heat produced.

They are called topological insulators and conduct electricity by harnessing a quantum-mechanical property of electrons called spin. Insulators are the very opposite of conductors: their electrons are tightly bound to atoms and the material resists the flow of electrical current, reports The New Scientist.

The electron revolves around the nucleus in an orbit, tied to it by a magnetic field from the passing nucleus. However, it has its own mini-field as a result of its quantum-mechanical spin. Spin is akin to the rotation of a spherical particle around its axis one-way or the other, and it creates a magnetic field either from its north to its south pole.

In materials where the spin-orbit interaction is strong, a spin-up electron will be deflected in one direction on encountering a nuclear magnetic field, while a spin-down nucleus will be deflected in the opposite direction – an effect dubbed the quantum spin Hall effect.

In a slice of the right material one atom thick, Kane and Mele showed, this would result in no conduction, as electrons deflected in opposite ways around adjacent nuclei would cancel each other out.

At the edge of the material, however, with no adjacent nucleus available on one side, the net result would be a flow of spin-up electrons in one direction around the edge, and a flow of spin-down electrons in the opposite direction.

The find is published in Physical Review Letters. (ANI)
